Team England represents the nation at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships, bringing together talented athletes, coaches and managers.

Team England is one of the ICU’s most successful member nations at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships.

Over the past 10 years Team England has placed top 3 in a variety of divisions, including gold medals in All Girl Elite, Co-Ed Elite, All Girl Youth Median, Co-Ed Youth Median, Youth All Girl Advanced, All Girl Junior Advanced, Co-Ed Junior Advanced, Adaptive Abilities Unified Advanced.

SportCheer England's role

SportCheer England provides governance, oversight and support to Team England, with responsibility for:

Management Appointments: Advertising, interviewing and appointing team managers.
Guidance and Resources: Providing information on coaching requirements, safeguarding, insurance, branding, risk assessments, anti-doping, athlete selection and relevant policies and contracts.
Coaching Compliance: Checking DBS status and qualifications of appointed coaches.
Ongoing Support: Offering guidance and assistance when requested and where possible.

Appointed team managers remain responsible for recruiting coaching staff, selecting athletes and overseeing their teams' preparation for the World Championships, with SportCheer England providing support and oversight where appropriate.

Coaching & Management

The Team England management application

process requires candidates to submit a formal

proposal and attend an interview with
SportCheer England.

Once appointed by SportCheer England, each

team manager is responsible for recruiting and

appointing their own coaching staff, as well as

overseeing the athlete selection process for their respective team. SportCheer England may

provide additional support and guidance

throughout these processes when required.

All Team England management, coaching and

administrative positions are voluntary and

self-funded, reflecting the dedication and

commitment of those who contribute their time, expertise and resources to supporting England's representation at the World Championships.

Athlete
selection

Team England holds tryouts at the beginning of each cheerleading season, typically between August and October. Selected athletes then attend a limited number of training sessions throughout the year in preparation for the ICU World Cheerleading Championships, held the following April.

Teams may also perform at selected events in the lead-up to the Championships to gain valuable performance experience and develop team cohesion. However, each Team England squad is formed specifically for the purpose of representing England at the World Championships, with team selection and participation applying to that competitive season only.

All Team England athletes participate on a voluntary and self-funded basis, demonstrating a significant commitment of their time, effort and personal resources to represent their country on the international stage.
