Cheerleading has officially been recognised as a sport in England by Sport England! This is a monumental moment for our community and a major step toward securing the future of our sport.
But sport recognition alone is not enough. To fully benefit from this achievement, SportCheer England must now be formally recognised as the National Governing Body (NGB). Until that happens, the sport remains ineligible for Sport England funding, and we cannot access the full support needed to grow and protect cheerleading in the long term.
This is where YOU come in. To secure NGB recognition, we need ALL clubs to be on board. Your membership is critical—by joining SportCheer England, you’re helping to build the governance, funding, and safeguarding structures that will allow cheerleading to thrive in England. Now is the time to take action! Our final stage application for NGB recognition will be submitted within the next 10 months, and this time is critical. Every club that signs up strengthens our case and helps secure the future of cheerleading in England.
Finally, a huge congratulations to our home country counterparts, SportCheer Scotland and SportCheer Wales, who have both achieved sport and NGB recognition for cheerleading in their nations. This is an incredible milestone for the sport across the UK, and we look forward to joining them in securing full NGB status for England!
